District Launches Parent and Community UniversityOn Saturday, October 13, Longwood Central School District held the first Parent and Community University, bringing together administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community members to discuss issues relating to the school community.

Held in partnership with the Suffolk County Police Department, the series provided attendees with informative, educational sessions including Internet Safety, School Safety, Distracted Driving, and Latest Trends in Substance Abuse.

“Those that attended the presentation took away a wealth of knowledge,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael R. Lonergan.  “While the goal of the series is to share information and expert guidance on different issues affecting our community, it’s also about building stronger relationships and encouraging an open dialogue.  We look forward to offering additional opportunities for our school community to attend these valuable educational events.

Through the Parent and Community University series, Longwood hopes to engage, educate, and empower families with the knowledge to support and guide their children down a successful path of academic, social, and emotional success. The district believes that family involvement is a critical factor in influencing student achievement.
