Longwood School Community Celebrates DiversityMore than 400 students and families gathered at Longwood Middle School on Thursday, October 11, to celebrate diversity within the school community.  Longwood Celebrates Languages provided attendees with an opportunity to learn about the district’s diverse cultures through an array of food, fashion, music, and dance.

To demonstrate the importance of fashion in cultures around the world, more than 40 students participated in a multicultural fashion show displaying religious and cultural backgrounds including India, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Mexico, China, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Uruguay, Poland, Dominican Republic, and Greece.
“At Longwood, our children flourish in a community with multiple languages and families from all over the world,” said Middle School Principal Dr. Tracy Adams. “We are proud of our community and want to showcase the reasons why Longwood is such a unique and special place. There are approximately 40 languages spoken by students in this district, with the four most being Spanish, Urdu, Turkish, and Chinese.”

Sponsored by MITA, MIAA, the PTA Council and SEPTA, the event provided attendees with an opportunity to experience cultural dances from around the world, as well as international cuisine, cultural crafts, art demonstrations, student essays, a t-shirt giveaway, and a free silent auction.
