High School Student-Musicians Selected for NYSSMA All-State Music ConferenceFive Longwood High School students and two alternates have been selected to attend the prestigious New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Conference held in Rochester, NY from November 29 – December 2, 2018.

Students Holly Fazio (second year, cellist orchestra), Timothy Carullo (bass mixed chorus), Gabriel Silva (tenor mixed chorus), Jaclyn Koch (alto mixed chorus), and Tatyana Davis (alto mixed chorus) have been recognized for exemplary musical excellence and will represent Longwood and join top musicians across New York State. John De Lucia (bass voice) and Nicholas Vest (trumpet) have been selected as alternates.

“Each year, our exceptionally talented students are selected as the best musicians in New York State,” said Dr. John J. Gallagher, Longwood’s Director of Music and Fine Arts. “Their selection is a testament to the sequential, quality music education we provide. Our students are active in various ensembles that provide them with different performance experiences. We could not be more proud of their dedication and commitment.”

The process for selecting an All-State musician includes teacher recommendations, audition scores at the NYSSMA solo evaluation festival, and participation in other performing organizations. Each spring, thousands of high school students from across New York State compete for a limited amount of positions in the NYSSMA All-State ensembles.
