Jamal Walcott Appointed Assistant Principal at Longwood High SchoolThe Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamal Walcott as the new assistant principal at Longwood High School, effective May 31, 2018. 

Mr. Walcott joined the District in 2005 as a high school social studies teacher and most recently served as the school’s academy liaison.

He has also served the District in other roles including the coordination, admission, and communication for the international student program. As academy liaison, Mr. Walcott increased student college and career readiness, led curriculum audits and will be presenting at Hobson College and Career Management System in July 2018.

Mr. Walcott is also involved in numerous committees and clubs including School to Business Advisory, Princeton Model Congress, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Students Together Against Racism, and School Data committee.  Additionally, he coaches LYSA soccer and LYSA basketball.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the dedicated professionals of Longwood,” said Mr. Walcott.  “I welcome the opportunity to build upon the excellent learning environment that the District provides students, and supporting the initiatives implemented to prepare our students for success.”

Mr. Walcott earned his BA in Secondary Education at St. Joseph’s College, his MA in Continuing Education at Stony Brook University and has received his Advanced Administration Leadership Certificate from the College of St. Rose.

“After a comprehensive search for a new assistant principal at the high school, Mr. Walcott emerged as an extremely qualified administrator,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael R. Lonergan.  “His dedication to our students and district is second to none and we’re very happy to have him as part of our administrative team.”
