COVID-19 Updates and Closures

October 23, 2020 -- 5:30 pm

Late this afternoon, the District learned that a student at Longwood Junior High School has tested positive for COVID-19.  However, the student has not been in school or on school grounds for more than a week.
The Suffolk County Department of Health has determined that a school closure does not need to occur, and there is no need for any students or staff to quarantine.  The individual who tested positive will not be allowed to return to school until medically cleared.

Please know that we will continue to diligently deep clean and sanitize all of our buildings each night and after in-person learning.

It is imperative to continue to take all necessary precautions such as staying home when sick, coughing and sneezing into your elbow, washing your hands often, staying socially distant and wearing a mask.

Thank you, and stay safe.

October 3, 2020 -- 4:45 pm

The District was informed by the Suffolk County Department of Health (SCDOH) that a staff member at Longwood High School has tested positive for COVID-19. This individual has NOT been in school or on school grounds since Friday, October 2, 2020, and has had limited contact with students and staff.

We are working closely with the SCDOH regarding contact tracing, and out of an abundance of caution, several staff and students will be quarantined. Any individuals who were exposed are currently being notified by the high school administration or the SCDOH.

Additionally, we will implement our deep cleaning protocols and sanitizing procedures throughout the weekend ahead, and the high school will be open for students and staff on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

It’s important to remember that the health and safety protocols in place in all our buildings, including social distancing, mask-wearing, and handwashing protocols, were intentionally designed to mitigate the risk to students and staff in the event a positive case was present and subsequently identified. We are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy academic environment.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation with our COVID-19 prevention policies and procedures as we work to help protect our students, staff members, and families.

We will continue to keep our school community informed of any updates.
Be safe, and stay well.
